Every year, World Food Safety Day on 7 June is a reminder of just how important it is to think carefully about what goes into the food we eat – and how it gets to our plate. For older adults, that conversation matters even more.
At our Social Group Activity centres, food safety isn’t something we think about once a year. It’s woven into everything we do, every single day.
Designed with Nutrition in Mind
Our meals are developed with our clients’ preferences and cultural needs in mind and certified by a qualified dietitian who understands that nutritional needs change as our clients’ age. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, every menu is thoughtfully planned to support muscle strength, bone health, and steady energy levels.
Across every meal, we work to incorporate all the food groups – protein, wholegrains, vegetables, fruit, and dairy or dairy alternatives – so that over the meals they eat when at our centres, offer a range of nutrients they need to function well. Good nutrition for older adults is about variety and balance, and that’s exactly what we aim to deliver.
Protein, in particular, plays a quietly important role in our clients’ nutrition – supporting muscle maintenance, recovery after illness or a fall, and overall resilience. It’s included as a part of every meal, not as an afterthought.
Food is so much more than fuel. Our home-style meals are what our clients genuinely love – familiar, comforting, and sometimes even nostalgic.
Meals that feel like home
As a service that specialises in CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) care, we also understand that cultural background shapes how people experience food.
Our clients come from a wide range of backgrounds, each with their own dietary traditions, preferences, and beliefs. By incorporating familiar foods and flavours from those backgrounds, we aim to enhance not just nutrition, but the overall experience and our clients’ sense of belonging and feeling respected.
We also invite clients to have a say in the menu – because the best meal is one that’s actually enjoyed and chosen by them.
Prepared and handled with care
A nutritious, well-planned meal still needs to be safe to eat. That’s why our kitchen staff follow a strict Food Safety Program, and all team members are trained to the standard that supports our 5-star food safety rating.
Meals are cooked fresh daily on-site by our cooks, with careful attention to preparation, temperature control, and handling at every stage. Our meals also cater for clients with special dietary needs, ensuring that everyone receives a meal suited to them.
Our Food Safety Supervisor oversees safe practices across the kitchen, so families and carers can feel confident that what’s being served meets both nutritional and safety standards.
We’re proud of what we put on the plate
Food safety isn’t just about compliance – it’s about care. It’s about ensuring that every meal we prepare is one that nourishes, satisfies, and arrives exactly as intended.
